Re: Your planned to visit the peninsula of Santa Elena
Introduction
The aim of
this report is to recommend the city of Anconcito as an interesting place for
your group to visit while staying in Santa Elena province.
As this is
an enchanted and unique place, it will clearly be of interest to your members.
Background
Around the
19th century, existed some peninsular villages like Chanduy, Engabao, Santa
Elena, La Hueca (La Libertad), Salinas, Manglaralto among others and is
precisely people from Engabao (nowadays known as Athaualpa) who came to
Anconcito and become the first residents.
In 1937, by
decree of the President of the Republic of Ecuador Gen. Alberto Enríquez Gallo,
Salinas to becomes canton the December 22 that year, jointly with its parishes:
La Libertad, José Luis Tamayo (Muey) and Anconcito.
Anconcito
celebrates its anniversary on December 18, because authorities from the
illustrious municipality of Salinas couldn't attend all threes celebrations at
the same time.
Since then
Anconcito is considered as one the main fishing harbors of Ecuador.
Attractions
for the group
The city of
Anconcito is located in the south-east of Salinas’s canton in the province of
Santa Elena, to 700km from Guayaquil. It's a coastal city whose inhabitants are
engaged to fishing.
The port is
the most important attraction and the main working medium. There is a viewpoint
from where you can see the sea, the lighthouses of Salinas and Anconcito, and
the city of Ancon. Everything you can see from there creates a beautiful and
unimaginable sight, together with the pier which sets a perfect contrast to the
city.
The typical
plate of Anconcito is the "pangora". You can taste it in a delicious
ceviche, a cream of pangora or a “Pangora a la termidor”.
The breeze
of the sea is cozy, in the afternoon the calm of that relaxing place invites
you to wander.
People from
Anconcito are really friendly, kind and helpful. Visiting this beautiful city
is like taking a step back in time thus, if you want peace and chill out from
hustle and bustle, go to Anconcito.
Practical
Information
The city of
Anconcito is accessible by car, but if you want you can go to the city by boat
or to explore the coasts of the peninsula. This is a really accessible city!
You won't
need a map. Anconcito is a small city and every of its residents is ready to
help the visitors.
